Description
C-19956
c. 1910s/1920s; Landers, Frary & Clark – New Britain, CT
Cast iron hand-crank meat grinder in the classic Universal No. 2 form, shown disassembled with original internal components. The body features a wide flared hopper feeding into a cylindrical grinding chamber, terminating in a perforated front plate with decorative cutouts. A clamp-style base allows the unit to be secured to a work surface, while the curved crank arm retains its turned wooden handle. Included are the internal auger screw, multiple toothed grinding wheels/plates, retaining collar, and fastening hardware—each exhibiting the rugged, modular construction typical of early kitchen and butcher shop equipment. The cast “UNIVERSAL” mark and size designation are clearly visible on the body, reinforcing its utilitarian, mass-produced origins. Form follows function throughout, with thick castings and straightforward geometry designed for durability and repeat use.
Shows light to moderate wear throughout including scattered oxidation, surface rust to hardware, and age-related patina. Sold unassembled; all visible components included.
