c. early 20th century; American Cast iron figural match holder depicting two elongated animal forms flanking a central hanging element above an integrated match cup. The stylized openwork design and applied gilt-toned finish reflect Art Nouveau and folk art influences common in decorative smoking accessories and tabletop novelties of the early 20th century. The lower reservoir was intended to hold loose matches, while the textured casting would have accommodated daily handling and use.
Shows finish wear, oxidation, scattered surface loss, and general age-related wear throughout.
