c. 1890s; Bickford & Huffman – Macedon, NY Uncut factory sheet of four lithographed Victorian trade cards advertising Farmer’s Favorite Grain Drills. Each panel features whimsical anthropomorphic bears paired with humorous captions: "Grin and Bear it, " "Bear one another’s Burdens, " "Bear and Forbear, " and "How can I Bear to leave thee." Along the bottoms, multiple regional distributors are noted, including B.G. Thomas of Baltimore, Bradley Holton & Co. of Indianapolis, Smith Bros. & Collins Transfer Co. of Jackson, MI, and Cleveland Storage Co. of Cleveland, OH-reflecting the broad reach of the company’s marketing network.
Cards show light age toning, scattered surface wear, and minor foxing, but colors remain vibrant. Seams between images are intact, confirming its status as an uncut factory piece. Handsomely presented in a green mat and wood frame for display.
