Description

C-18785

Nickel-plated novelty wrist watch presented on its original printed cardboard display card marked "MOVABLE HANDS" and "Occupied Japan." The watch features a round metal case with a simple dial and articulated metal link bracelet, designed as an affordable novelty or gift item rather than a precision timepiece. Packaging and construction are consistent with mass-market Japanese export goods produced during the Allied occupation period. Items marked "Occupied Japan" date to roughly 1947-1952, a period when Japanese manufacturers produced large quantities of inexpensive consumer goods for export to the United States. Novelty watches like this were commonly sold through dime stores, drugstores, and mail-order catalogs, often displayed exactly as seen here on card backing for counter sales.

Condition appears unused. Watch is new old stock (NOS) on the original card. Light age wear and toning to the metal bracelet and card consistent with long-term storage. Movement has not been tested and is sold as found.
