Description
C-18813
Pair of printed burlap potato sacks featuring distinct regional graphics and typography. The larger sack is printed for Eastern States Farmers Exchange, West Springfield, Massachusetts, with bold black lettering and cooperative seal graphics. The smaller sack is printed for Stout’s Potatoes, North Alabama, featuring a colorful basket motif and red lettering. Both sacks retain their original stitched seams and show the coarse, open-weave jute construction typical of agricultural produce packaging. Printed burlap sacks like these were widely used throughout the early to mid-20th century for transporting and storing potatoes and other produce, with regional branding serving both functional and promotional roles within local and interstate farm markets.
Shows general wear consistent with age and use, including creasing, fraying at edges, scattered staining, and fading to the printed graphics. Structurally intact overall.
