Stallman & Son, Inc. – York, PA Cardstock countertop display produced to promote Abram Clark cigars, featuring bold lithographed graphics, faux woodgrain cigar box imagery, and repeated portrait panels of Abram Clark, signer of the Declaration of Independence. Designed to mimic a stacked cigar box arrangement, the display presents strong shelf presence with saturated yellows, reds, and browns, period typography, and patriotic branding common to early 20th-century cigar advertising. The reverse panel retains original printed assembly instructions, confirming its intended point-of-sale function. Surviving examples of this scale and visual impact are increasingly scarce due to the fragile nature of the material and heavy in-store use. Breuker & Kessler Co., based in York, Pennsylvania, was active in the early 20th century producing printed paperboard advertising displays and packaging for tobacco, food, and household goods, supplying retailers with eye-catching promotional materials during the golden age of American storefront merchandising.
Shows moderate to heavy age wear throughout, including edge wear, corner softening, light surface soiling, and minor losses along folds and seams. Cardstock remains structurally sound overall, with vivid graphics still well preserved for a display of this type and era.
